| Skill Details: | This is not a "how-to-sew" class. Participants must be comfortable with their sewing machines, using scissors to cut small pieces of fabric, use an iron, and keep track of lots of small pieces of fabric. |
| Requirements: | Three-day class: arrive 9 - 9:15a for a 9:30a start. Deadline for kits with pattern ordered with us is December 18th January 18th, February 1, and February 22 (Saturdays) Raw edge appliqué Supplies First class (January 18th) • Kit with pattern • Micro-tipped tweezers are suggested, but any will work • Lite Steam-A-Seam • Fine permanent marker • Scissors. These should cut tiny pieces and be sharp. Karen Buckley’s serrated medium and small scissors are good. You might want to bring a few different ones to see what works best for you and to switch out to reduce hand fatigue and/or match cutting size. • Applique pressing sheet • Teflon pressing sheets or Reynolds parchment paper (see notes below). Paper towels work, too! • Light vinyl sheet to trace your project* • Several storage bags for pieces (i.e. Ziploc) • Iron and ironing mat. We have communal stations at the shop. • Optional: Light box, rotary cutter (28 or 45mm) and cutting mat. Second & Third Class (February 1, 22) • Your project • Background fabric cut to size PLUS a minimum of ½” extra all around • All supplies needed to work on your project • Sewing machine you are familiar with and it’s supplies DUE BEFORE 1ST CLASS • Copy your pattern onto vinyl sheets. Either by hand or printer. Torrington Office Supply is an inexpensive option. Note: • Most find it helpful to have a personal cutting station and ironing station next to their sewing machine. • Brands other than Reynolds may stick to your project causing frustration or worse, damaging your project. |
